Installable Particle Classification Systems for GEOSYSTEM Sieve Test Packages

NOTE: These files are provided "as-is" with no warranty as to their accuracy. It is the user's responsibility to verify that the selected classification system conforms to the latest standards.

GEOSYSTEM packages with sieve test support allow the addition of new particle size classification systems to the programs' default list. (A particle size classification system is a means of dividing up a tested soil into, e.g., gravel, sand, silt and clay, by specifying the maximum and minimum particle diameter of each for reporting purposes. For more information, see Section 3.1 of your program's User's Guide.) The list below provides download links for specialized classification systems from various state Departments of Transportation and other organizations.

To install one of these classification systems, right-click on the link provided, select "Save Target As" then save the file your program's shareable config. file directory (click this link for help in finding the proper directory).

Finally, restart your GEOSYSTEM program.

After you've installed your system, create or open a grain size test, select "Window" > "Sample Info.", then drop down the "Classification system" box to find your new particle classification.

USCS Without Coarse/Medium/Fine

USCS Without Coarse, Medium, and Fine Divisions.GEZip

The standard USCS systems break gravel down into coarse and fine, and sand down into coarse, medium and fine. This file adds an option to report only the total gravel and sand percentages. (Note: this isn't needed if you have version 4 of GrainSize, CLSuite or LabSuite, as those versions included the option.)

USDA Using #270 as the Sand/Silt Division

USDA270SandSiltDivision.GEZip

USDA breakdown with #270 as the sand/silt division instead of 0.05mm. (Note: this isn't needed if you have version 4 of GrainSize, CLSuite or LabSuite, as those versions included the option.)
